Trollviken Skitouring week
SKI TOURING WEEK AT TROLLVIKEN LODGE, NORWAY
Welcome to Trollviken Lodge by the Ofotfjord in Norway. This is a wonderful place if you are looking to experience genuine mountain culture on an old fish farm in the middle of Scandinavia’s best Ski Touring area. We enjoy good food, sleep well and discover new summits every day. In the evening we take a Sauna and a swim in the fjord before dinner. Then we sleep comfortably at the lodge to the smooth rhythm of the waves. On the other side of the fjord we can see the lights from Narvik reflecting in the water.
This is ski touring week the way it should be. Trollviken Lodge is located strategically on North Side of Ofotfjord and only 30min from Evenes, Harstad, Narvik Airport. From here we can reach hundreds of great ski touring summits. A lot of them provides a great run all the way down to the fjords. The crowds that you can see in neighbooring areas Lofoten and Lyngen are not here.
Program
Arrival day. We pick you up at the airport. The easiest is to fly to Evenes airport (also called Harstad / Narvik Airport). We pick you up at the airport and drive to Trollviken in half an hour. We go through the equipment, talk about avalanche safety and do the transceiver search training.
Your guide drive the van to our “home mountain” Spanstind. I has a great fjord view from the summit and offers many opportunities skiing down. We stop to take a break after the tour on Lauphaugens tourist station. Spanstind is 1,460 meters above sea level but since we start at about 400 meters above sea level so it will be a suitable starting day with 1000 vertical meters.
We ‘ll be home in time for a sauna before dinner.
We drive a little further out towards Tjeldsundet and climb up Strandtinden. Wonderful views out to the Vest Fjord – America’s Next! – And a long North facing side that often keeps really good snow.
The aim of the day is a little more sharp. Today we go on Rombackstötta across the fjord. It’s a little longer day and it a great feeling on top of the “Narvik Matterhorn”. The skiing down is often fine powder. If it is stable snow conditions , we may decide to go a little steeper down Rombaksrännorna on the north face.
We go to climb and ski a favourite in Gratangen. We start in the nice village Foldvik and climb up Nonsfjellet.
Novafjellet is a long day but we are rewarded with views in all directions! Looking north towards Andröja, Rolla and Senja. NV we see the vast sea and Harstad. In the West we see the Lofoten Islands and Vestervålen.
Today we drive to the best Nordic ski mountain with lift – Narvikfjellet. We use the lift and climbing skins to get up the mountain so you get 3000 vertical meters with downhill skiing in wonderful terrain.
Transfer to airport for return flight.
